This house for a couple and their extended family sits on the edge of an open west-facing meadow. Designed for small and large gatherings of family and friends, the three bedroom house sleeps six, with with built-in daybeds and “berths” to sleep an additional five. A separate green-roofed structure houses a two car garage/shop space, and a storage bay for a boat.

To capture a south-westerly water view while controlling glare from summer western sun, the house was designed with corner windows that are shaded by deep eaves and a large cedar sunshade/trellis.

At the Entry, the stairs to the second floor expand to make a bench for removing your shoes. A local peeled fir log is used for a structural column, and the high zig zag counter is made of reclaimed elm.

The two-story Living Room space orients towards the view and accommodates big family gatherings. An open Office loft opens into the Living Room and looks through it to the view beyond.

A high-efficiency woodstove and concrete surround provides supplemental heat in the winter, and a built-in reading bench doubles as wood storage.

Built-in daybeds throughout the house serve as sleeping berths when the house is full.

Custom cabinets are made of fir, and the headboard in the Master Suite is made of madrona.
